INTRODUCING THE NEW CSTDB QUALIFICATION
As from the 1st January 2018 The Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatments (CSRT) qualification has been re-named Certificated Surveyor of Timber & Dampness in Buildings, (CSTDB) however, the existing CSRT qualification will continue to be recognised as a professional qualification for surveyors in the remedial property industry.
So why the change?
Over the years there has been some criticism ( uncalled for in our opinion) directed to the PCA that the CSRT qualification was awarded in house and perhaps not rigorous enough. The decision was then made to outsource the examination accreditation to ABBE to ensure complete transparency.
The new qualification is now known as the CSTDB – ABBE/PCA Level 3 Certificated Surveyor of Timber and Dampness in Buildings.
ABBE has now awarded its first batch of qualifications and has given praise to the PCA for the high standards it has upheld in the past!
Qualifications are made up of modules:
- Legal and Health & Safety
- Damp
- Timber
To attain CSTDB status candidates are required to pass all three modules.
*ABBE (Awarding Body for the Built Environment) is the leading awarding organisation providing qualifications for the built environment.* You can read more about ABBE and their accredited qualifications here
Just to be clear – all the surveyors working for Shaw Preservations are qualified and we clearly state their qualifications on each report we send out.
