Damp Treatment Surrey
Damp in properties is a serious problem with the damage ranging from slight, as in decorative staining to more severe such as structural damage.
There are several forms of damp such as penetrating, rising, lateral, condensation and plumbing leaks etc.
Each of the above require different treatments in order to solve the problem and it is vitally important that the correct diagnosis is initially made and the recommendations undertaken. For example, inserting a damp proof course will only treat rising damp and will not treat damp from a faulty gutter (penetrating), similarly dampness from a leak in a buried pipe will not be cured with the insertion of a damp proof course. In some cases it is quite usual to have more than one type of dampness occurring in a property.
Our surveyor uses a moisture meter to “profile” the wall. This involves taking many readings at both high and low levels in order to determine the pattern of the damp. This is because each type of damp presents a different pattern. An inspection will also be made to the paintwork, decorations, skirting boards, etc as this can also affect the results of the moisture meter.
An external inspection is carried out to determine any defects that could be causing penetrating or lateral dampness so an accurate diagnosis of the cause of the internal dampness can be made and the correct advice given.
